Winterhochzeit auf Gut Üselitz Rügen

Wedding Story

The estate Gut Üselitz on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen is a listed renaissance manor house from the 16th century. It is situated on an idyllic peninsula surrounded by the nature of the Mellnitz-Üselitzer Wiek. Growing up as a former East Berlin child, Rügen was for me firmly connected with summer holidays. I know the island like the back of my hand and have explored almost every corner on a folding bike. And so I was very happy when Karina and Phu asked me if I would document their German-Vietnamese wedding. Actually they both live in Berlin. But they immediately fell in love with this wedding location in the middle of seclusion. The two were very lucky, because on this day the sun showed up on the island of Rügen for the first time after a rainy week. And the next day the typical island weather including storm and rain was announced again. So it was very a relaxed winter wedding with international guests.

Getting Ready with a Mantra

The bride and her bridesmaids have prepared themselves directly on Gut Üselitz. The sun was still very low at this time of the year and the view out of the window of the bridal suite showed the nature still in hibernation. A Hindu mantra note with the words of the Hindu Ram Dass was lying on the edge of the bathtub. “We’re all just walking each other home” was the literal motto of this wedding. At the end of the Getting Retting, just before the bride was on her way to the ceremony room, there was a common mantra once more hand in hand.

Civil Wedding Ceremony at Gut Üselitz

Only since a short time you can get married at Gut Üselitz in a registry office. Karina & Phu were the first to take this opportunity. The wedding room was lovingly decorated with flowers by Wiesenmädchen, who herself was also part of the wedding party. The whole room shone in the sunlight. Because on this day the weather in Rügen showed itself from its best side. During the wedding ceremony there were musical interludes at the piano of Phu’s sister. The music for the entry and exit was typically Berlin electronic.

Couple Photos in the nature

After the champagne reception, I started with the couple photo session with the wedding couple in the middle of the nature of the Mellnitz-Üselitzer Wiek. The low, natural winter light created a wonderfully melancholic atmosphere. Karina’s wedding dress was wonderfully shown to advantage in the yellow, ochre & brown tones of the reeds. I had to give the two almost no instructions for the couple photos, because they were completely busy with themselves. And so often the most beautiful couple photos are created. Without too much intervention, with a lot of calmness and communication between the bridal couple. In the meantime, the guests were able to stretch their legs on the extensive grounds of the estate park. At a food truck there were various Swiss raclette variations as a small snack for in between.

Dinner & Wedding Party

After the sunset we went quickly to the manor house because without the warming sun it got cold quickly. Also here there were once again musical interludes of the guests between the individual courses. After the dinner it went over quickly to the actual party. Typical for the Berlin audience, a DJ friend of the wedding couple played funky, electronic and multi-cultural beats. And this was much better than same sound of most of the wedding DJ’s. Cool audience, great wedding. Thanks Rügen, I will gladly come again for a visit. As a guest and as well as a wedding photographer.
